Ending Isolation

Picture
In 1853, Matthew C. Perry landed in Japan and opened Japan to the west.  Japan's convenient location made it easy for U.S. ships to stop and refill their supplies of food and fuel.  And when the Commodore Mattew C. Perry landed in Japan he used "a show of force" to get Japan to open to the west.  He then ended nearly 200 years of isolation from the outside world.
